This is a really striking article about the return of a pontifical Latin Mass to St. Peter’s Basilica. Going deeper than just the event itself, you really get the sense that something meaningful had been restored. After a couple of years when the traditional liturgy hadn’t been permitted there, thousands of pilgrims, many of them young and coming from all over the world, gathered again for this solemn celebration led by Cardinal Raymond Burke.

The Mass was part of a larger pilgrimage filled with processions and prayer, and there was this clear feeling of joy and gratitude that such a deeply rooted tradition could once again be experienced at the very heart of the Church. It didn’t come across as divisive at all, but rather as hopeful—a reminder that these ancient forms of worship still speak powerfully to people today, and that there’s a real desire among many Catholics to preserve and share the beauty and reverence they find in them.
